This is a large copper knife (or blade) artifact, most likely associated with the Old Copper Culture (also called the Old Copper Complex) of the Archaic period in the Great Lakes region of North America (primarily Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and nearby areas).

In Very Good Condition

This is a flat, hammered piece of native (nearly pure) copper with an irregular, elongated form—somewhat fish- or leaf-like in outline, broader in the middle, tapering to points at both ends, with a small perforation (hole) near one end. The surface shows heavy green verdigris (copper carbonate/patina from long-term oxidation and corrosion), mixed with reddish-brown areas of the underlying metal. It is displayed in a simple black frame on a white background.
