A large Papago Olla basket is a traditional, bulbous or jar-shaped storage vessel handcrafted by the Tohono O'odham (formerly referred to as Papago) people of the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and Mexico. Historically used to keep food and seeds dry and safe from pests, these highly collectible, large-scale baskets feature distinct desert materials, a rigid construction, and geometric or pictorial motifs.
