A Maliseet porcupine stitch tall open basket is a highly prized piece of traditional Native American basketry. It is handcrafted by the Maliseet (Wolastoqiyik) people, who are part of the Wabanaki Confederacy of Maine and eastern Canada. The "porcupine stitch" (also known as a porcupine weave or curl) does not use actual animal quills. Instead, it is an intricate wood-twisting technique that mimics the texture of a porcupine.
