Gloria Lopez Cordova (often signed GLC / Cordova NM), a Hispanic wood carver from Cordova, New Mexico (born 1942), working in the local santero/folk-art tradition. americanart.si.edu Cordova, NM is well-known for its multi-generational wood-carving tradition, especially unpainted or lightly finished aspen/cottonwood pieces with distinctive chip-carving and sometimes burned detailing or simple inlay. The style traces largely to José Dolores López and his family, who revived and popularized santos (religious figures) and other carvings in the 20th century. Gloria Lopez Cordova continues in this family tradition; her work includes religious figures (santos, crosses, trees of life, etc.) and animals.
