A middle Moche stirrup spouted vessel is a specific style of ceramic pottery produced during the Middle phases (primarily Moche III and IV, roughly 300–700 CE) of the Moche (or Mochica) civilization, which flourished along Peru's north coast from about 100–800 CE.
These iconic vessels feature the distinctive stirrup spout—a hollow, U-shaped arched tube (resembling a horse stirrup) attached to the body at two points, with a vertical spout rising from the top. This form, used for millennia in Andean cultures, was especially refined by the Moche for both functional (likely holding liquids like chicha, a fermented corn beer) and ceremonial/artistic purposes.
