Maliseet baskets with porcupine stitch (or porcupine weave/curls) are traditional Wabanaki ash-splint baskets featuring a decorative technique that creates sharp, spiky projections resembling porcupine quills. Maliseet, one of the Wabanaki (“People of the Dawn”) nations of Maine and New Brunswick (alongside Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, and Mi’kmaq). These communities share related basketry traditions centered on brown/black ash and often sweetgrass.
