Cecelia Smoke was a renowned Akwesasne Mohawk basket maker from Malone, New York. Her work is recognized for its traditional craftsmanship, often utilizing black ash and sweetgrass. Cecelia Smoke is identified as an artisan from the Akwesasne Mohawk community, a nation known for maintaining a steady and influential tradition of basket making. Her work is part of the "Welcome Home Collection" at the Akwesasne Cultural Center Museum, which features over 200 baskets crafted between 1974 and 1984. Some of her baskets include original signed tags, documenting their origin from Malone, NY, over 35 years ago.
