Navajo Deer Kachina (or Katsina) dolls are handcrafted wooden figures made by Navajo (Diné) artists that depict the Deer spirit/dancer, inspired by Hopi Pueblo traditions. Kachina (katsina) dolls originated with the Hopi and other Pueblo peoples. They represent spiritual beings or messengers that help with rain, fertility, abundance, healing, and other aspects of the natural world and society. Traditional Hopi katsinam are typically carved from a single piece of cottonwood root and hold deep ceremonial and educational significance (often given to children to teach about the spirits).
