C. Smith is a Navajo (Diné) artist known for carving and painting Kachina (Katsina) dolls, primarily in the 1970s and 1980s.  While traditional Kachina dolls originate with the Hopi people (carved from cottonwood root as educational and spiritual items for children), Navajo artists like C. Smith have long produced their own versions. These are often more commercial or decorative, styled after Hopi Katsinam but with distinct Navajo artistic touches.
