Navajo (Diné) pitch pot pottery (also called piñon/pine pitch pottery) is a traditional utilitarian and later artistic form made by Navajo potters. It features hand-coiled clay vessels that are stone-polished, outdoor-fired (often producing fire clouds), and coated with melted piñon pine pitch (sap) while still warm. The pitch creates a distinctive glossy, dark-to-golden-brown or reddish sheen, seals the porous clay (historically for holding water or food), and can leave a characteristic aroma.
