She is a daughter of well-known potter Betty Manygoats and comes from a large family of potters (many siblings also make pottery). She is largely self-taught but works full-time in the tradition, creating hand-built pieces using traditional Navajo methods. A Navajo (Diné) folk-art style pottery turtle figurine by Elizabeth Manygoats (often signed "EM" or "E. Manygoats"), typically finished with traditional piñon pine pitch.
