Phyllis Nez is a Navajo artist living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the early 1990s, she learned the technique of making storyteller figures from Felicita Eustace of Cochiti Pueblo. Her work stands out for its delicate detailing, especially in the facial features of the main storyteller and the children. Collectors appreciate the fine sculpting and expressive quality. She sometimes incorporates unique elements, such as cats alongside or instead of children. Pieces are commonly signed "P. Nez" or "Phyllis Nez," often with "N.M." (New Mexico) added. Her storytellers are well-respected among collectors of Native American pottery and folk art. They appear in, auctions, and online marketplaces like eBay and Etsy.
