Navajo (Diné) turquoise belt buckles are classic examples of Southwestern Native American silverwork, combining sterling silver (or sometimes other metals) with turquoise stones in handmade designs. Turquoise holds deep significance for the Navajo, often associated with water, sky, happiness, luck, health, protection, and good fortune. It has been used in adornment for centuries in the Southwest.
