Emma Yazzie was a well-known Navajo (Diné) artist who created commercial sandpainting-style artworks (often called "sand art" or "permanent sandpaintings"). These pieces adapt traditional Navajo ceremonial designs using glued colored sands on a board for sale as decorative art, rather than the impermanent sacred sandpaintings used in healing ceremonies. 

Her works frequently feature Yei (holy people or deities) and Yeibichai (Yei Bi Chai or Yei-Bei-Chai) dancers from Navajo rituals like the Nightway or Yeibichai ceremony—a nine-day healing event involving masked dancers representing the gods, chants, and symbolic elements for restoration and protection.
