Strictly speaking, the Navajo (Diné) people do not have a native "Kachina" culture; Kachinas (Katsinam) are ancestral spirit beings central to Puebloan tribes like the Hopi and Zuni. However, Navajo artisans craft these unique fusion figures for the art and tourist market by depicting their own Holy People, known as Yei, in a doll format.
