The Salazar family (Leo G. Salazar and his sons, including Leonardo and Michael) are renowned santeros—traditional wood carvers of religious figures (santos or bultos) in northern New Mexico. They work primarily in cedar or cottonwood, creating rustic, expressive folk art pieces with a strong Hispanic Colonial influence rooted in the region's isolated Spanish settler heritage.
