Northwest Coast matchbox holder baskets are highly collectible, miniature woven artifacts created primarily by the Makah tribe of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington and the closely related Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) people of Vancouver Island. Historically classified as "trinket baskets" (pika-uu), these delicate items represent a unique chapter where traditional Indigenous weaving techniques adapted to a rapidly growing 19th-century tourist market.
