The Paiute cradle basket is a traditional baby carrier woven by the Paiute people of the Great Basin region (encompassing parts of Nevada, Utah, California, Oregon, and Idaho). Renowned for their exceptional basketry skills, the Paiute created these cradles as both functional items for infant transport and storage, and as cultural artifacts often reserved for skilled artisans. These baskets reflect the Paiute's adaptation to a harsh, arid environment, using locally sourced materials like willow shoots, sumac, or other woody fibers.
