A Peyote Rattle is a sacred ceremonial instrument primarily used by members of the Native American Church—a religious movement that spread to various Indigenous groups across the Americas, including the Paiute peoples of the Great Basin. Together with the water drum, the rattle provides the fast, driving rhythmic accompaniment for solo singing during all-night peyote prayer services.
