Paiute people traditionally created pitched water baskets (also known as tus or kadu o'sa) instead of using conventional clay pottery water jugs, as Great Basin indigenous groups were not known for extensive pottery making like southern Native Americans. These were ingeniously designed, twined baskets made from willow, yucca, and devil's claw, which were then sealed with red clay and piñon pine pitch to make them watertight.
