Paleo arrowhead artifacts, more accurately described by archaeologists as projectile points or spear tips, represent the oldest known stone tool technologies in North America, dating from roughly 14,000 to 8,000 B.C. During the Paleoindian period, the bow and arrow had not yet been invented in the Americas; these masterfully crafted stone points were instead secured to heavy spears or dart shafts thrown with the aid of an atlatl to hunt Pleistocene megafauna like mammoths and ancient bison.
