Papago baskets are traditional coiled baskets made by the Tohono O’odham people (“Desert People”) of the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona and northern Sonora, Mexico. “Papago” is an older external name that the people themselves largely rejected starting in the 1980s in favor of Tohono O’odham.
