Papago (Tohono O’odham) polychrome oval tray baskets are traditional coiled baskets made by the Tohono O’odham people (historically called Papago) of southern Arizona and northern Sonora, Mexico. They are shallow, oval-shaped trays or platters (sometimes with handles), used historically for household purposes such as food preparation, serving, or parching. “Polychrome” refers to multi-colored designs created with natural plant materials rather than commercial dyes.
