Papago (Tohono O'odham) lidded baskets using split stitch with a knob (or "nob") on the lid are traditional coiled basketry items from the Tohono O'odham people (formerly known as Papago) of southern Arizona. This is a distinctive coiling method where the sewing strand (usually split yucca or similar fiber) wraps around a bundle foundation (often beargrass) and splits or exposes parts of the previous coil, creating a textured, open, or patterned appearance rather than a fully closed, smooth surface.
