Hand Coiled and Made from Horse Hair Bowl and Hat Baskets
In Very Good Condition
These miniature horsehair basket and Hat are characteristic of the Pima (Akimel O'odham) and closely related Tohono O'odham (formerly known as Papago) peoples of southern Arizona. Starting in the mid-20th century (especially 1950s–1970s), artisans began creating tiny, intricate baskets woven from horsehair (often white or natural with dyed accents in red, black, or other colors). These are not pottery but finely coiled or woven horsehair miniatures, sometimes featuring designs like geometric patterns, animals, figures, or traditional motifs such as the Man in the Maze. Horsehair miniatures became popular in that postwar period as tourist/collectible items.
