Pit River baskets are traditional woven baskets created by the Pit River Tribe (also known as the Achomawi and Atsugewi), a group of eleven autonomous bands of Indigenous peoples from northeastern California. The tribe has historically resided along the Pit River near areas like Montgomery Creek, with reservations including Big Bend Rancheria, Big Valley Rancheria, and others. These baskets are renowned for their intricate twined weaving techniques, geometric designs, and practical uses in daily life, such as storage, gathering, and carrying (e.g., burden baskets).
