Plains beaded knife sheaths are iconic examples of Native American material culture from the Great Plains tribes (such as the Lakota/Sioux, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Crow, Cree, and others). They date primarily from the mid-to-late 19th century through the early 20th century, though the tradition continues in contemporary Native beadwork. 

These sheaths protected and carried everyday or trade knives (often skinning or butcher-style blades with wood or bone handles). They combined practical function with stunning artistic expression.
