A Plateau beaded coin purse is a small, fully or heavily beaded pouch originating from Native American tribes of the Columbia Plateau region (primarily in what is now Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and parts of Montana and British Columbia). Tribes associated with this style include the Nez Perce, Yakama, Umatilla and others in the area between the Cascade and Rocky Mountains. 
European traders introduced colorful glass seed beads to the Plateau in the early 19th century. Plateau women adapted beading techniques to create functional and decorative items. While larger Plateau bags (often called "cornhusk bags" or "Nez Perce bags") evolved from traditional twined storage baskets used for roots, berries, and saddle bags, smaller coin purses became popular as personal accessories, often made for personal use or the tourist/souvenir trade in the early to mid-20th century (e.g., 1910s–1960s).
