Hand Woven Miniature Golden Tan Basket with Dark Brown Lines on Base and Rim

In Excellent Condition

Pomo miniature baskets are exquisite examples of traditional basketry created by the Pomo people, an indigenous group from Northern California whose territory historically spanned the coastal regions around Mendocino, Sonoma, and Lake Counties, extending inland to Clear Lake. These tiny works of art, often no larger than a thumbnail (ranging from 1/8 inch to about 4 inches in diameter or height), showcase the remarkable skill, patience, and cultural significance of Pomo weavers, predominantly women. Recognized worldwide for their fineness of weave, diversity of form, and intricate designs, these baskets were not mere miniatures but functional or ceremonial items scaled down to demonstrate mastery—sometimes used as gifts, toys for children, or prestige objects.
