Hand Crafted Mesoamerica Stone Bead with 2 Ridges
In Good Condition but Broken And Then Glued
Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica (roughly 2000 BCE to 1500 CE) encompassed sophisticated civilizations like the Olmec, Maya, Teotihuacan, Zapotec, Mixtec, and later Aztec, spanning modern-day Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador. Artisans excelled in working with stone (especially hardstones like jadeite/greenstone, obsidian, and others) for beads and ornaments, as well as pottery (ceramics) for vessels, figurines, and ritual objects.
Stone beads were highly valued status symbols, often made from imported jadeite (jade), which symbolized fertility, maize, water, and the supernatural due to its green color and rarity. Jade came mainly from Guatemala highlands and was traded widely.
