Baker Cave is a significant prehistoric archaeological site located in a small canyon near the Devils River in Val Verde County, Southwest Texas. It forms part of the rich system of rock shelters in the Lower Pecos Canyonlands region, known for preserving evidence of ancient human occupation due to its dry conditions.
The cave itself is a large rock shelter measuring about 120 feet long by 56 feet deep (37 m × 17 m), with a ceiling height varying from 18 feet at the entrance to just inches at the back. It was completely undisturbed (protected by the Baker family landowners and its remote location) before excavations began.
