San Felipe Pueblo (Katishtya) pottery is relatively rare compared to traditions from nearby pueblos like Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, or Acoma. Historically, San Felipe residents often obtained pottery through trade (especially with Zia) rather than producing large quantities themselves, and the tradition largely faded for a time before limited modern revivals. Contemporary San Felipe potters frequently work experimentally or draw on oral histories, elder memories, and influences from other pueblos because documented historic examples and continuous local teaching lineages are scarce.
