Pottery By Maria + Santana (often stylized as "Marie + Santana" in signatures) is a renowned black-on-black pottery created through the collaboration between Maria Martinez (1887–1980), a legendary potter from San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico, and her daughter-in-law, Santana Roybal Martinez (dates not widely documented, but active in pottery until at least the mid-1950s). This partnership marked a significant chapter in Maria's career, producing highly collectible pieces that blend traditional Pueblo techniques with innovative artistry. Pieces signed "Marie + Santana" or "Maria + Santana" are dated roughly between 1943 and 1956, and they are celebrated for their sleek, polished forms and intricate matte designs.
