The San Ildefonso Pueblo miniature black wedding jar is one of the most iconic and collectible forms of Native American pottery.
The wedding vase (or jar) is a ceremonial vessel with two spouts connected by a handle, symbolizing unity in marriage. The bride and groom drink from separate spouts, and the handle represents their bond. Black versions are matte or polished, sometimes with carved or sgraffito (scratched) designs like feathers, avanyu (horned water serpent), bear paws, or geometrics.
