Alvin Curran stands out as one of the most skilled and refined potters from Ohkay Owingeh in the late 20th century—and notably, one of the few (if not the only) prominent male potters there at the time. Part Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan) and part Quechan. He grew up at the Pueblo, worked as Chief of Police, and took up pottery later, encouraged by his mother-in-law. He was married to Santa Clara potter Dolores Curran (their work shows stylistic cross-influences), and their daughter Ursula Curran continues the tradition.
