San Juan Pueblo (now Ohkay Owingeh) is known for its distinctive red clay pottery traditions, both historic red-on-tan wares and a 20th-century revival style featuring redware. Turtle motifs and effigy figures appear in Pueblo pottery, including from this Tewa pueblo in northern New Mexico, though they are more commonly documented in blackware examples.
