Stella Tafoya Chavarria (b. 1939) is a Santa Clara Pueblo potter known for traditional blackware with deep carving, high polish, and classic forms. She belongs to the prominent Great-granddaughter of Sarafina (Sara Fina) Tafoya (1863–1949) Granddaughter of Christina Naranjo (1891–1980) Daughter of Teresita Naranjo (1919–1999)
Related to Margaret Tafoya (great-aunt). She began making pottery around 1955, learning traditional methods from her mother. She has passed the techniques on to her daughters Denise Chavarria and Loretta “Sunday” Chavarria (both established potters), and also taught a granddaughter.
