In Very Good Condition

Santa Clara Pueblo pottery is renowned for its traditional hand-coiled, highly polished blackware (black-on-black) and redware, produced by the Kha'p'oo Owinge (Santa Clara Pueblo) in northern New Mexico. This pottery tradition dates back centuries, with a surge in the late 1800s when potters began creating pieces for tourists and trade. Iconic features include deep carving (sgraffito), impressed designs like the famous bear paw (or bear claw), rain clouds, and other symbolic motifs, as well as large storage jars (ollas) and innovative miniatures or figurative works.
