Camilio “Sunflower” Tafoya (1902–1995) was a well-known Santa Clara Pueblo (K’apovi) potter from one of the most prominent pottery families in the Southwest; he is not documented as a silkscreen (serigraph) or printmaker.
He was the son of potters Sara Fina (Sarafina) and Geronimo Tafoya, brother of Margaret Tafoya and Christina Naranjo, and father of renowned potters Grace Medicine Flower and Joseph Lonewolf. He specialized in traditional carved blackware and redware pottery (often large jars with bold designs such as the avanyu/water serpent), then later in the intricate sgraffito (incised) technique on smaller and miniature seed pots, often depicting animals, Pueblo life scenes, stories, and sunflower motifs linked to his Tewa name. He sometimes collaborated with his children. His work appears in museum collections and is actively sold by galleries specializing in Native American pottery.
