Birdell Bourdon (also spelled Bourdan or similar variants; Tewa name “Vine Flower”), born 1957, is a Santa Clara Pueblo (Tewa) potter known for traditional hand-coiled blackware (and some redware).  She learned pottery from her mother, the late Marie Sisneros Askan (who taught at World College in Las Vegas, New Mexico), beginning around age 10. Her father was Andy Askan (Navajo/Diné). Siblings include Linda “Jo’Povi” Askan and Jeff Askan; her daughter is Pauline Marie Bourdon. She has been actively producing since the mid-1980s (sources vary slightly on the start of professional work).
