Petra (full name Petra Montoya Gutierrez, ca. 1905–1992) was a respected Santa Clara Pueblo artist known for creating both blackware and polychrome redware pieces. She was connected to prominent pottery families, including being the daughter-in-law of Pasqualita Tani Gutierrez (from the influential Tafoya lineage). Petra began making pottery around the 1940s or earlier, learning traditional techniques, and her work often features bold, painted designs like sun motifs, geometric patterns, deer, or serpents. Examples include vases, bowls, and plates signed simply "Petra." Her polychrome redware pieces from the 1930s–mid-20th century appear in collections, auctions, and galleries, valued for their cultural significance and craftsmanship.
