Santa Clara Pueblo Seed Jar by Golden Rod is a exquisite hand-coiled pottery created by Gloria Garcia, known artistically as Goldenrod (or Golden Rod). Born in 1942 into Santa Clara Pueblo (K'haP'o Owingeh) in New Mexico, she is a renowned Tewa potter from a talented artistic family. Her mother was Petra Gutierrez, and her sisters (including Lois Gutierrez, Minnie Vigil, and Thelma Talachy) are also accomplished potters. Goldenrod specializes in miniature and small seed jars (also called seed pots), which she hand-builds using traditional coil methods, polishes to a high sheen, and decorates with intricate sgraffito (freehand etched/incised) designs—no stencils involved!
