Santo Domingo Pueblo Pottery Pitcher By Vidal Aguilar

Vidal comes from a well-known pottery-making family. His parents are Joe and Helen Aguilar, and he is self-taught in the traditional methods of hand-coiling, slipping, painting, and firing. The Aguilar family has a strong reputation in Santo Domingo/Kewa pottery, with members like Rafaelita Aguilar also noted for large storage jars and traditional black-on-cream or polychrome work. Vidal is particularly recognized for creating some of the largest ollas (jars) in the pueblo, often in contemporary or bold traditional styles with flowers, geometric motifs, moons, or other elements. His pieces are typically handmade from local clay and natural pigments, following ancestral techniques while sometimes incorporating modern floral or colorful designs.
