The Wintu people are indigenous to Northern California (just north and west of the Sierra Nevada range). Wintu basketry is highly regarded and typically utilizes a twining technique. Weavers traditionally used willow, hazel tufts, bear grass, pine roots, and maidenhair fern to create beautiful, tightly woven utilitarian and ceremonial baskets.
