Clara “Winona” Crow Bryan (also known as Winona Clara Bryan or Clara Derby/Bryan; 1918–1996), a Wahpetonwan Dakota (Wahpeton Sioux) artist associated with Pipestone, Minnesota, and Pipestone National Monument, carved pipestone (catlinite) turtle figures/fetishes that are commonly referred to this way.  She was the daughter of Moses and Estelle Crow; the family moved to Pipestone in 1927. She married George “Standing Eagle” Bryan (Ojibwe/Chippewa, from White Earth), and together they continued the family tradition of quarrying and carving pipestone taught by her father. They were early members of the Pipestone Indian Shrine Association. Winona was also known as a champion dancer at powwows.
