The Southern California Chumash pestle is a type of stone grinding tool used by the Chumash people, the Indigenous inhabitants of the coastal regions of Southern California (including areas like Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and parts of the Channel Islands).

The Chumash relied heavily on mortars and pestles (often made from sandstone, steatite, or other local stones) as essential tools for processing food. They primarily used them to pound and grind acorns—a staple food source—into meal or flour, after leaching out bitter tannins. These tools also processed seeds, nuts, roots, herbs, and occasionally other materials like meat or pigments.
