Van Joseph Born in 1964 in New Westminster, Van Joseph grew up in Surrey and North Vancouver. He began carving at age 15 after being inspired by other Squamish Nation artists and is a member of the Squamish Nation and a prominent Indigenous artist based in North Vancouver, BC, specializing in traditional Coast Salish wood carvings. His work frequently features culturally significant motifs such as the Chief, Eagle, and Frog, which are often depicted in masks, plaques, and sculptures.
