Thompson River Salish baskets with lids are traditional coiled basketry created by the Nlaka'pamux (also known as Thompson River Salish or Thompson Indians), an Interior Salish First Nations people from the Fraser and Thompson River regions in British Columbia, Canada.
These baskets are renowned for their coiled construction using cedar root as the foundation, often decorated with imbrication—a technique where folded strips of materials like cherry bark (for red/black colors) and beargrass (for white/natural) are overlaid to create intricate geometric patterns, such as zigzags, diamonds, arrows, or bands.
