Hand Coiled with Geometric Pattern in the Center of the Basket
In Very Good Condition
Tlingit baskets like this are renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, typically woven using split spruce root (from Sitka spruce trees) in a tight two-strand twined technique. This creates durable, watertight vessels. Small sizes such as this were often used as trinket baskets, berry bowls, drinking cups, or decorative items. Larger versions stored food or served utilitarian purposes, but miniatures (around 3–4" tall) frequently featured lids (sometimes rattle-top styles with hidden pebbles for sound) or bold geometric designs.
