Alvin Navasie Sr. (born 1958, Spider Clan) is a respected Hopi artist who has been carving since the mid-1980s. He works primarily in cottonwood root, creating detailed, hand-carved and painted Katsina dolls. His work is known for strong craftsmanship and is featured in collector references such as Theda Bassman's book Hopi Kachina Dolls and Their Carvers (pages 104–107). He often signs pieces as "Alvin Navasie Sr." on the base. Other family members (including Muriel Navasie and Wally Navasie) are also noted carvers, but Alvin's pieces appear in galleries and sales with consistent attribution for mid-to-late 20th-century and vintage-style works.
